Books 2008

The list of books I have read in 2008

  1. Rainbow's End by Irene Hannon.  genre Inspirational Romance .   This is a sweet romance about a man and woman that each have wounds and scars that need healing and tenderness.  They each find away to soften the heart of the other, and in turns reaches out to individuals they come in contact with.  I sweet quick read, clean, something easily shared with friends. 251 pages31/2 bookmarks out of 5
  2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte genre Classic literature, gothic romance (if someone knows how to pull up speical characters let me know please.) Is a classic story of two people with scars that manage to find each other and love each other)through some of the most trying of circumstances.  A heroine abused and poor, with a good heart, and a determination to make the best of her life and do what she must.  An unlikely hero, with a troubled past, a second son desperately wanting to make his father proud and in the process becomes trapped by his choices.  What occurs is one of the most beloved stories ever written.  The edition I read had several essays critiquing the novel.  Most of which were really not worth the page space. 644 pages. 5 out of 5 bookmarks.
  3. Just Jane by Nancy Moser genre Historical fiction  Just Jane is a story of Jane Austin's life.  An interesting point of view, that left me feeling like there was so much more to know and understand about this woman.  364 pages 3 out of 5 bookmarks
  4. The Bishop's Bride by Elizebeth W. Watkins genre LDS romance The Bishop's Bride is a cute entertaining story.  Perhaps the biggest fault of the author is her tendincy to create "mary sue" type characters, both in the heroine and the hero's dead wife.  Then she can create another character that is so far from a "mary sue" that she is the one with depth and meaning.  I would personally love to know more about her.  A quick read, and highly entertaining. 218 pages 3 out of 5 bookmarks
  5. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli genre Young Adult fiction This is a sweet story.  I did not love it as much as other people, including my youngest sister, that maybe because I did not read it as a teenager.  It has a great message about being yourself no matter the pressures.  That being kind and loving is a way of life.186 pages 3 out 5 bookmarks.
  6. Valley of the Kings by Cecilia Holland genre Historical fiction.  This novel is about the discovery and imagined life of King Tut.  I would imagine there is much that is absolutely wrong about this story.  Since I am not an expert I could not say, it just did not feel like it was very accurate.  231 pages 2 out of 5 bookmarks
  7. The Angel and the Sword by Cecilia Holland genre Historical fiction.  Before Joan of Arc there was another maid that took up the sword in defence of France.  It would appear hers would have a happy ending that mirrors that of Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe, Ivanhoe is a much better story.   304 pages 3 out of 5 bookmarks
  8. What lies in Shadow by Tina Wainscott genre mystery A very intreguing story of  a young woman not sure about her husbands faithfullness begins a blog.  Eventually convinced to have an affair, her life takes a turn she did not expect and her life and marriage are threatened.  I would have liked this story much better, except for the violent sexual assults. 369 pages 2 out of 5 bookmarks
  9. King Kelson's Bride by Katherine Kurtz genre historical fantasy If you have not learned by now, just ingrain it in your memory, I love Katherine Kurtz.  She creates rich, real, characters, and employ them in settings and plots of great depth.  King Kelson's Bride is a tale of how young King Kelson finally gets a bride.  It also incorporates the return of Liam to his throne in Torenth, alowing the readers to see the grandure of a different society than that of Gwynedd. 374 pages   5 out of 5 bookmarks.

As of April 9, 9 books read for a total of about 2941 pages
